Customer Testimonial

“I am thrilled with Salmon Falls Landscaping! The work they did made my yard and gardens look beautiful. I needed a spring clean up, mulch and repair of some uprooted trees from a winter ice storm. I was impressed at everything they did to get my yard in tip top shape and they were even able to save my lovely lilac trees! The guys were also very courteous and professional. I highly recommend Salmon Falls to get your home looking great!”

SALMON FALLS NURSERY & LANDSCAPING DONATES NEW LANDSCAPING

Longtime Local Firm Gives Back to Community and Honors Local Residents

June 19, 2012 - Berwick, Maine - Salmon Falls Nursery and Landscaping helped the South Berwick Public Library beautify its new location this spring with its generous donation of a new landscaping design and installation. The company’s Mother’s Day installation features a handsome outdoor circle of old, repurposed granite.

The donation is Salmon Falls Nursery and Landscaping’s thank-you to local South Berwick residents who helped to establish the family-owned landscaping start-up in its early years. Those honored in memoriam are: Bill Bray, Dick Gagnon, Cliff Ham, Gloria Roberge, and Dennis Smith. Also honored are Carol and Sam Mick of Mick Construction in nearby Rollinsford, NH.

“It was my honor to pay tribute to these fine local residents in a lasting way at South Berwick’s new library,” said Salmon Falls Nursery and Landscaping owner Mark Pendergast. “My firm will soon celebrate 35 years in the Greater Seacoast area because of the kind of grassroots support for local businesses that these folks provided to me. I encourage fellow businesspeople in our area to find similar ways to give back to our community, and to support this huge undertaking for South Berwick’s library.”

This landscaping project is part of a much-anticipated larger relocation and renovation project that is underway for the South Berwick Public Library. This year the organization and local residents realized a decades-long dream of moving SBPL into a newly built addition at the former St. Michael’s Church. The library will expand into the church’s former sanctuary this fall as renovations are completed. The new landscaping design as well as the installation (consisting of plant material, irrigation, and sod) was donated in its entirety by Salmon Falls Nursery and Landscaping. The landscaping firm’s employees donated a total of 150 hours of their own time for the installation. South Berwick town road crews assisted with the laying of sod.

“It is people such as Mark Pendergast that make big efforts like the new library actually happen. The whole project will be a little gem in the middle of South Berwick,” said Cynthia Gagnon, longtime SBPL supporter.

Fundraising for the new South Berwick library is ongoing, and donations can be made by calling (207) 384-2195 or by visiting the Friends of South Berwick Public Library website at:  http://www.friendsofsouthberwicklibrary.org/.

Newburyport, MA Landscaping Project

A tight squeeze in Newburyport, MA!

Maneuvering on a small lot is a challenge in and of itself. Only eight feet between the corner of the house and the corner of the garage made access to the backyard a larger challenge than expected. But experience and the right equipment made the job go smoothly. Patio and walkway were installed and then the gardens. Irrigation, lighting and lawn installation finished the back. A fence with a gate was installed in that space between the house and garage prior to the driveway and front entrance completion.

Granite steps were set at the front doors and a new paver driveway with small planting areas on either side was installed. The planting areas allowed for drainage from the driveway without flooding the neighbouring property. Perennials were planted in these spaces so that there was room for winter snow. A brick apron was added in order to create a cohesive feel with the sidewalk enhancements.

What a beautiful transformation and all the components were seamlessly installed while the homeowner was out of town.

Stonework New Hampshire: Portsmouth Regional Hospital

Create an entrance that is bold, dramatic, and tasteful. That was the challenge Salmon Falls was given. With competition between hospitals to have an inviting entrance, putting the patient at ease becomes the goal. This project was in the planning phase for over 6 months as we worked with the hospital to create a design that was within budget, satisfied a 12 member board, and created an entrance to the hospital that was different than anything out there. Add to that the need for it to be easily maintained.

We made the bold statement with four massive 4’ tall freestanding stonewalls with 6’ pillars on each end. The walls vary from a 30’ long straight wall to a pair of 80’ long serpentine walls at the main entrance.
To soften the walls a bit, we added hundreds of ornamental grass, daylilies, and shrubs to provide texture and color throughout the season. To give it a little punch we added room for annuals and planted over 4000 spring bulbs.

To connect the areas we planted a serpentine row of 30 mixed flowering crabapples. A row of Maple, Ash, Tulip Tree, and Tupelo along the street provide shade for those using the sidewalk. The fall color of the trees is spectacular.

We met the criteria given to us by the owner of the project and along the way took the commercial feel away.

Waterscapes by Salmon Falls Landscaping

The dream of living on a mountain top became a reality. The trees were cleared and the area levelled in order to create a cozy cape with attached barns for a homeowner that loves to tinker inside and out. Once the house was well on its way our designer collaborated with the owner as to the overall look and feel of the landscape. The patio and pond were set to the back of the house for the homeowner’s enjoyment, but was still visible as one came up the hill.

Construction began with the pond and patio as each was an integral piece of the other. A dry stack fieldstone wall was built along the driveway at the top of the hill beckoning visitors to enjoy the simple lines of the house and gardens imbued with “Ole New England” charm. Planting began with perennial color being added to patio insets and repeated in the gardens surrounding the pond. A flagstone walkway winds through a new birch planting to the front door. Rhododendrons were sprinkled along the new woodland edge.
Watering the vast lawns and planting beds became the task of our irrigation division and they were very much a part of the planning and implementation of the entire project. Lighting was added as a finishing touch to highlight the birch, pond and specimen plantings against the house. The simplicity of the setting drove this landscape to its serene and colourful best.

Patriot Place Project

When sitting on the patio or in the lounge of the Renaissance one can view Gilette Stadium across the street. The only hotel at Patriot Place, The Renaissance stands in a league of its own.  Salmon Falls Nursery furnished and installed all the plant material on site under the auspices of the general contractor. Being a showplace itself, the hotel wanted larger plants than might normally be used on a commercial site which meant that irrigation was a vital component of the project. Timing and coordination of our company crews is what helps Salmon Falls Nursery stay competitive while still providing quality workmanship. Take a look for yourself.
